Devlog 3 : Baby Steps

Hello there! As we mentioned in the previous Devlog, we've decided to focus on developing the main game mechanic. This mechanic allows the player to select the enemies that will respawn in the next waves so he can fight them to improve his abilities. The player's ultimate goal is to survive long enough until a Boss appears. After defeating it, the game ends.

For this reason, during these weeks our focus was on defining the logic of the core mechanic to avoid having situations, such as, for example, that a player can always select the same type of enemy and this leaves him strong enough to survive all the waves.

First of all, when pressing the Start button the player must choose for the first time the type of monster that will spawn for a time to be defined, for this, a non-functional menu was created to make this selection. The idea is that at the beginning a couple of enemies can be selected.

We tried to add new types of enemies, as these are necessary to be selected in the enemies menu that appears every certain time that is yet to be defined.

We have been working on implementing different types of attacks for the player, each type will be different both in the damage it inflicts and in the speed of the attack and the area it covers.

The player sprite was changed to better reflect the spirit of the game and its implementation is under development. This decision is not definitive and may change as the development of the game progresses.

For the following weeks we plan to continue developing the implementation of the main mechanics of the game, so we want to continue polishing the interaction between enemies and the player. First, we want to improve the attacks made by the player so that they are reflected in the life bars of the enemies and we also want to implement that by eliminating an enemy the player receives some kind of reward that allows him to continue progressing his character. For now, the idea is that the character will gain experience to improve a specific attack to keep focusing on making the player think twice before selecting the type of enemy he wants to spawn.
